Coal Handler Represented by Nichols Kaster, PLLP Settles Discrimination Claims Against The City of Willmar and Willmar Municipal Utilities

Nefi Ibarra, a coal handler represented by Jim Kaster and David Schlesinger of Nichols Kaster, PLLP, settled his claims against the City of Willmar and Willmar Municipal Utilities for $115,000. Following his termination, Mr. Ibarra brought claims for religious and national origin discrimination in Federal District Court in Minnesota. In July, the Court denied the defendants’ summary judgment motion in its entirety, observing that Mr. Ibarra is Mormon and he presented evidence that the only other Mormon employees at the Willmar Municipal Utilities were also terminated.

Today, the West Central Tribune published an article about the settlement: http://www.wctrib.com/content/utilities-city-settle-ex-coal-handlers-lawsuit.
