This practice is commonly referred to as “tip pooling, “tipping out,” or paying into a “tipshare.” Minnesota law allows employees to voluntarily share their tips, but forbids management from taking money from the tip pool, requiring certain employees to share tips, or participating in any agreement for certain employees to share tips.
