Labor Trafficking

No Company is Too Big to Play Fair.

Unfortunately, labor trafficking is alive and well in the United States. An employer or recruitment agency may make false promises about an employment opportunity in order to induce an employee to commence work. When the employee begins work, they quickly find out their job is far different than what was promised. For example, an employee may receive unequal pay or be forced to work in poor working conditions.

Labor traffickers may coerce the employee to continue to work for them despite the poor conditions by using threats like:

  • Severe financial penalties.
  • Deportation.
  • Abuse of legal action.
  • Physical restraint.

Importantly, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), among other laws, afford certain protections to labor trafficking victims.

We at Nichols Kaster, PLLP, believe that all employers have a responsibility to play fair. If you believe you are a victim of labor trafficking, please contact our Civil Rights and Impact Litigation group. Our clerk is available at (877) 344-4628 or online.
