Michele Fisher and Steven Andrew Smith Elected to College of Labor and Employment Lawyers

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers announced the election of Michele Fisher and Steven Andrew Smith of Nichols Kaster, PLLP as new Fellows in its 2020 class. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by one’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.

The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. It operates as a free-standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.

Michele Fisher is one of the firm’s managing partners, and a leader of its wage and hour litigation practice group, marketing group, and business development team.  With 20 years of experience, Michele strives every day to help “the little guy” find a voice against injustices in his or her employment, routinely litigating class and collective actions for wage theft. Michele also believes in giving back to the legal profession in ways other than billable hours. She donates a significant amount of time to conference planning and educating and collaborating with other lawyers. She also does pro bono work for the Children’s Law Center, which advocates for foster children.

Steven Andrew Smith is one of the firm’s managing partners, and a leader of its individual practice group. Steve has devoted his nearly 25 years of practice to protecting and advancing the rights of Minnesota employees, litigating several notable cases having substantial effect on employees’ rights under state and federal employment laws. Through caselaw, articles and presentations, Steve works to shape the law in ways that benefit employees. Steve’s devotion to his client’s cause, open-mindedness, and authenticity have earned him respect not only in the legal community, but also among his clients. Steve is also an active mentor to law students and other lawyers, encouraging open conversations about the state and practice of law.
