Minimum Wage Hike to $15 for Minneapolis Workers Approved by Appeals Court

Yesterday, the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld an ordinance that provides for a progressive wage increase for workers in the City of Minneapolis.  The minimum wage will increase each year until it reaches $15 per hour for large employers by 2022 and small employers by 2024.  Currently, large businesses (employing more than 100 persons) should be paying their Minneapolis employees no less than $11.25 per hour and increasing it to $12.25 on July 1, 2019.  Small businesses (employing less than 100 persons) should be paying no less than $10.25 per hour and increasing it to $11.00 per hour on July 1, 2019.  The current requirements and required gradual increases until the minimum wage reaches $15 per hour are outlined in the Minneapolis ordinances located here.

If you work in Minneapolis and are paid less $11.25 per hour, please feel free to contact us to discuss your potential claim. Employers who violate these provisions are liable for the unpaid minimum wages and mandatory double damages.  See the ordinance for more details and definitions.
